Without the Guru, no one can cross the ocean of worldly existence — even if one were equal to Brahma (the Creator) or Shiva (the Destroyer). Only through the Guru's grace does the seeker transcend the cycle of birth and death and attain liberation.

‘‘बंदऊँ गुरु पद पदुम परागा। सुरुचि सुबास सरस अनुरागा॥ अमिअ मूरिमय चूरन चारू। समन सकल भव रुज परिवारू॥’’

I bow to the dust of my Guru’s lotus feet — full of sweet fragrance and deep love. Like a beautiful powder made of nectar, it cures all the sufferings and troubles of worldly life.
